Luis Lincoln!
In this installment of Cat Facts with Luis we are going to celebrate Presidents Day by taking a look at the Commander in Chiefs' cats!
Socks the cat addresses the nation.

  • Rutherford B. Hayes (president from 1877 to 1881) had three cats: Piccolomini, Miss Pussy, and Siam (the first Siamese cat in the United States).
  • William McKinley (1897-1901) had two kittens.
  • Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909) also had two cats. They were called Tom Quartz and Slippers.
  • Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921) had a cat named Puffins . . . I wonder if he had a puffin named Cats.
  • Calvin Coolidge (1923-1929) had a cat named Tiger. He also had a bobcat called Smoky and lion cubs called Tax Reduction and Budget Bureau!
  • John F. Kennedy (1961-1963) had one cat named Tom Kitten. Tom Kitten is a character from a book by Beatrix Potter.
  • Gerald Ford (1974-1977) had a Siamese cat called Shan.
  • Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) also had a Siamese cat. His daughter named it Misty Malarky Ying Yang.
  • Bill Clinton (1993-2001) had Socks, an adopted stray cat.
  • George W. Bush (2001-2009) had a American Shorthair named India.
So far, there have been no cats named Molly in the White House, but who knows what the future may bring?

And now, a bonus POODLE fact!
Grover Cleveland (1885-1889 and 1893-1897), John F. Kennedy (1961-1963), and Richard Nixon (1969-1974) each had a poodle.
However, not one of the dogs was cotton candy pink.
This fact upsets Poodle.
You can find out about other presidential pets here. Happy Presidents Day!
